Emergency medicine is the medical specialty concerned with the care of illnesses or injuries requiring immediate medical attention. It includes initial assessment and early treatment in resuscitation, trauma, and medical and paediatric emergency including surgery and anesthesia. Emergency physicians generally practice in hospital emergency departments, pre-hospital settings via emergency medical services and intensive care units, but may also work in primary care settings such as urgent care clinics. Sub-specializations of emergency medicine include disaster medicine, medical toxicology, point-of-care ultrasonography, critical care medicine, hyperbaric medicine, sports medicine and palliative care.

The curriculum includes administrative components such as Leadership, System development, Legislation and Finances as well as operational and clinical components such as injury prevention and control, pre-hospital care and definitive care facilities including insurance scheme.
