Community Medicine has a common goal of improving health of the whole community and not only just an individual. The Department of Community Medicine is known for its value-based medical education & training and it is committed in providing the environment and resources to support in excellence through community orientation in educating medical students to be community responsive primary care physicians. Health camps and community awareness programmes conducted by the department helps to provide proper understanding of Promotive, Curative and Preventive medicine to the students. A large focus is placed on learning by doing and students are encouraged to interact with village panchayat members and local residents. Undergraduates are trained in community action and taught how to organize health camps, how to manage health centers and to contribute to the national health programmes. The department contributes significantly to develop competent community physicians of first contact through teaching, training and research initiatives to manage various communicable diseases including emerging & reemerging global pandemics and non-communicable diseases.
